OPPORTUNITY TO EARN

It’s important to us that people understand that not only is care work a great career choice, it’s a profession that can provide you with a good opportunity to earn – if you’re willing to put in the work.

A great career choice

Pay rates in the sector can be generally low when compared to other industries due to a number of factors, but primarily because of minimal government funding. We want to pay our team fairly for the hard work they do. We have worked hard to be in a position that allows us to not only pay a competitive wage, but to reward those team members who work on evenings and weekends, as well as bank holidays and early mornings; paying higher between 19:00 and 08:00. We also increase across the board all standard rates of pay, once qualified.

With paid mileage, paid travel time, paid holidays and the offer of additional work, there is ample opportunity for you to earn much more than you might expect.

Potential to earn in first year

We've done some analysis of our team's potential earnings and we wanted to share with you the reality of what you could be taking home each year. Everyone hears that the sector is underpaid, but the wage you can take home is likely more than you might expect.

The below figures take into account our enhanced rates during evenings, weekends and early mornings and have been averaged out to provide a realistic figure. However, of course the more weekends and evenings you work, the more you will earn.

Full time Earnings

If you're committed to working full-time across Monday to Friday, evenings and weekends, you could earn, in your first year:

Part time Earnings

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

We support you with professional development and nurture a proactive approach to self-led learning. We offer a plethora of CPD through our award-winning eLearning platform, available at any time to all our staff.

Leave and Wages

We recognise that knowing what you are entitled to, and how much you get paid are important to you. Which is why its important to us.

Annual Leave

We recognise that it can be difficult to ask about time off and wages when applying for a job, without feeling awkward. We want to alleviate some of that.

Our full time care workers are entitled to 5.6 weeks' paid holiday (statutory annual leave) a year.

Your 5.6 weeks' legal minimum holiday is usually made up of:
20 days = 4 weeks
+ 8 days (which can be the year's bank holidays) = 1.6 weeks

Your 5.6 weeks' statutory annual leave entitlement might include bank holidays, depending on your contract.

If you work part time, you’re still entitled to 5.6 weeks' paid holiday, just in proportion to the hours you work ('pro rata').

You can work this out by the number of days you work a week x 5.6.

For example, if you work 3 days a week, you’re entitled to 16.8 days' paid holiday (3 x 5.6) a year.

If your employer gives full-time employees more than the statutory annual leave (for example, 6 weeks), then part-time employees must get the same, calculated pro rata.

More information available on the ACAS website.

Wages

Your wages are paid on the last Friday of the month and all payslips and financial information is accessible through our payroll portal, helping you to manage your information in an efficient, paper-free way.

We have signed up to Hastee Pay; a scheme which allows you access to any wages you have earned, ahead of pay day. We believe this helps staff to better manager your finances and help get you through any challenging times, or unforeseen circumstances that life may throw at you.

Progression

Contrary to popular belief, there is a career path open to you in social care too, if you choose to walk it. There are opportunities for the right staff to progress within Pineshield. Each step along the path provides you with further opportunity to earn as well as develop.

Our company structure currently looks like this:

  • Senior
  • Team Lead
  • Registered Care Manager
  • Senior Manager/Director

We acknowledge that not everyone wants to progress into managerial roles, or are quite happy at the level they are, but there’s still potential for staff to specialise in particular areas or even consider new roles to support the company through other means. Our commitment to learning and development, and regular supervision and appraisal process seeks to identify such opportunities for all our staff to help our team continue to flourish.
